In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Hawkins, and a son, Herbert Hawkins Jr. Hawkins was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She served as a volunteer with the Sisters of Mercy Auxiliary for more than 35 years and was a founding member of the Vicksburg Beautification Association. She was a graduate of Union Church Academy and had attended the University of Southern Mississippi and Louisiana State University.
